The First End of the World

The First Wife

When Zeus gave me to you,
I opened my hands.

When you opened your eyes,
the sun rose in my skin.

When day sank to rose,
you taught me the fire of lips,

but when stars burned
I watched you go

and stared into deep water,
tried to see myself for myself.

Left, I went looking for remedies,
remembered my dowry chest.

If a box could answer your memory,
I was ready to open it.
